Service Description

At ETM Solar Consulting, we offer specialized residential thermal imaging home inspections at night to precisely identify where your home is losing heat and costing you money. This service is designed to complement our solar expertise by ensuring your home is as energy-efficient as possible, maximizing the benefits of any current or future solar installation. Why a Night-Time Thermal Scan? Performing thermal inspections at night is crucial for accurately detecting heat loss. During the day, sunlight can warm exterior surfaces, masking heat escaping from inside. At night, with no solar loading, the temperature difference between your warm interior and the cool exterior is at its most pronounced. This amplified difference allows our infrared cameras to clearly visualize: Missing or Inadequate Insulation: We'll pinpoint areas in walls, attics, floors, and around rim joists where insulation is sparse, settled, or entirely absent, showing up as significantly warmer spots on the exterior or colder spots on the interior. Air Leaks and Drafts: Our thermal cameras excel at identifying air infiltration and exfiltration around windows, doors, electrical outlets, plumbing penetrations, and ceiling fixtures. These areas will often appear as distinct patterns of heat loss or cold air intrusion. Compromised Building Envelope: We can detect issues with your home's thermal envelope, such as gaps in siding, cracks in foundations, or poorly sealed ductwork, which allow conditioned air to escape. Moisture Issues: While primarily for heat loss, thermal imaging can also indicate areas of moisture presence, as wet materials have a different thermal signature (they often appear cooler). This can indirectly point to potential leaks or condensation issues that also contribute to heat loss. Hidden Structural Issues: In some cases, thermal patterns can indirectly reveal structural anomalies or even pest infestations if they impact the thermal performance of the building materials. Following the inspection, you will receive a comprehensive report containing: Thermal Images: Visual evidence of all identified heat loss areas. Detailed Analysis: An explanation of what each thermal anomaly signifies. Recommendations: Actionable insights and prioritized recommendations for improving your home's energy efficiency, such as sealing air leaks, adding insulation, or upgrading windows.
